The Chestnut canoe company was in operation from 1897-1978 and produced some of the most sought-after canoes in Canada. This example from 1910 features a 2hp St. Lawrence one cylinder engine. Purchased by the Simpson family of Long Lake Ontario, it was used to ferry them across the lake from 1919-1942. It was stored on the Madawaska River in a boat house when ended up flooding and the canoe was rescued from the bottom of the river. After much work and restoration, the canoe was on the water again in 1955 with a new replacement 2hp St. Lawrence engine. The canoe went back into storage in 1961 until 1983 when it was pulled from the family basement and refurbished. Refurbishment was completed in 1985 and it stayed in the Simpson family until 2016. It's now available for a new family to create memories!

Engine

While not the original engine, it's an authentic replacement model from the St. Lawrence Engine Company of Brockville, Ontario, matching the canoe launch's original specifications.
